Nick Potter Promoted to asheville tourists (high-a)

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — The Asheville Tourists bolstered their pitching staff Monday, officially receiving right-hander Nick Potter via promotion from Single-A Fayetteville.

Potter, 22, earned the jump to High-A after turning in a dominant first half with the Woodpeckers. Across 17 appearances and 17 starts, the 6-foot-4 righty pitched to a stellar 2.11 ERA over 59.2 innings, racking up 70 strikeouts while holding opposing hitters to a microscopic .184 batting average and a 1.16 WHIP. Despite an unreflective 0-2 win-loss record due to tough luck and run support, Potter’s high-octane stuff, highlighted by a 10.56 K/9 rate, forced the organization's hand as the South Atlantic League stretch run heats up.

Potter's ascent to becoming a High-A pitcher indicates the rapid progress he made through the development process. Starting his college baseball career at Crowder College in Missouri, he moved to Wichita State, where his upper-90s fastball, which touched 100 miles per hour, was noticed by the scouts. In the 2025 draft, he was selected by Houston as the 156th player overall, and the Astros converted him from a high-velocity college reliever to become a full-time starter.

While the Tourists have not yet set up the starting rotation for the week, Potter is poised to make his High-A debut when Asheville faces the Winston-Salem Dash in a six-game road series at Truist Stadium. Potter will either start early in the week or for the weekend, and his presence will add another great arm to the Tourists' rotation as the season comes to an end.
